New Season: The 2008 Sailing Season will kick-off this year on May 14th with our spring sign-up meeting. The meeting is at the Hingham Yacht Club at 7pm on May 14. All boats that sailed last year should have received a renewal application in the mail. You can either mail the application to us or deliver it in person at the meeting. We will also be conducting a race committee training seminar to go over what is required when performing race committee duty. Sailing Instructions will be handed out and we will review the changes to this years instructions.
The tune-up race is on 5/21 with a 6:40 warning gun for Class A. The first race of the Spring series is on 5/28 also with a 6:40 warning gun for Class A.
The following changes will be implemented this year:
- Spinnakers will be allowed in the Spring Series. In past years, no spinnakers were allowed in the Spring Series. We had received many requests to allow spinnakers and decided to allow them. It is completely optional to fly a spinnaker and the choice is made each race.
- To make things easier on the scorer this year, the default racing/cruising score will be racing. Boats wishing to cruise (not fly a spinnaker) must fly a yellow ribbon (supplied by HBPHRF), otherwise they will be scored using their racing rating. As in the past, when cruising, a boat is scored using the cruising rating plus 10%, so a boat with a cruising rating of 100 would be scored using a rating of 110.
The full schedule will be posted shortly, we will be racing every Wednesday night from 5/21 through 9/3. The starting area is East of Sheep Island the same as prior years.
Please contact me at the email address below if you have any questions or feedback.
