Solstice Regatta Recap:

We had a great turnout for the Solstice Regatta with 24 boats competing!
The A Fleet had a course of Nixes Mate and Rainsford finishing at the HB off Sheep with five boats competing.  The fleet split early one with half going out Hull Gut and the second half going out Western Way.

The B Fleet had a course of Georges Island and Rainsford with 6 boats competing with all boats (in the end after Static sailed half way to Western Way and then turned around) going out through Hull Gut.

C Fleet had five boats competing with a course of Georges Island and then to the finish.  Competing with us again for the second year in a row were the Thunderbirds!  Glad you could make it again!

F Fleet was won by Sean Gallagher in Running Wild and he sailed Georges Island and to the finish in great time.

G Fleet had six competitors with some new faces and they sailed Peddocks and to the finish and at one point it looked like they would never get around the course with no breeze around Peddocks at all!
But in the end they all finished.

Thank you to everyone who competed, hope you had a great time.  The breeze filled in, the sun stayed out and the rain stayed away..........Don't forget the Scorpion Bowl coming up July 11th with a party after at Hull Yacht Club.

Special thanks to Dave Nelson for helping me with Race Committee!

Changes in Sailing Instructions for 2009:

Be sure to read the 2009 Hingham Bay PHRF.  There are a number of changes in the Sailing Instructions, one of the most notable being that you "must check in with race committee for each race declaring whether they intend to race or cruise before the warning signal of the 1st class start of that race.  Failure to check in with race committee shall result in the yacht being scored as not starting that race".  If you did not make the Spring Meeting and need a 2009

book, contact Dar Collins at industrialtech@comcast.net or at 781-749-0373.

In case of bad weather you may call me at 617-827-8109 to check for cancellation, monitor channel 68 one hour before the start of that race and I will make every attempt to post as soon as possible on our website cancellations.

Practical Sailor Articles:

If you are a subscriber to Practical Sailor and you don't want to dig through all your old issues to find an article, here is a tool that may help narrow down the search for whatever subject you are looking for. The index currently covers April 2002 to the present (with some but not many gaps).

Tied in knots:

This is a great resource for those folks interested in learning (or remembering) how to tie boating knots. Each knot is presented in a series of photos to make it easy to follow.
